Schonowe Fire Company is one of eight fire companies in Rotterdam, New York. We
have primary responsibility to the citizens of Rotterdam District #7. Schonowe
covers 10 square miles with a population of approximately 2,500. We also cover 4
miles of interstate I-90 (The New York State Thruway), 8 miles of interstate I-890,
The main plant of The General Electric Company, Several miles of the New York
State Barge Canal System, 3 miles of N.Y.S Bike Trail System, and 4 miles of the
CSX rail road system.

The Schonowe Fire Company averages approximately 100 emergency incidents
responses per year.

Schonowe Fire Company operates 3 fire engines, and 1 utility truck all with a
volunteer force. The Department also operates a special water rescue unit.

Schonowe Fire Company is staffed with 1 Fire Chief, 2 Assistant Fire Chiefs, 2
Captains, 3 Lieutenants, and Approximately 30 Fire Fighters.

Schonowe is located in Rotterdam, N.Y. which is approximately 20 miles west of the
State Capitol of New York at Albany.
